Baltic Urban Lab partner cities peer reviewing Turku

City of Turku held Baltic Urban Lab’s Joint City Pilot Review meeting in the recently opened Visitor and Innovation Center Joki on Tuesday, 13 February 2018. The event was organized as a part of Baltic Urban Lab project activities and attendees came from partnering cities Tallinn, Norrköping and Turku as well as University of Turku, Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC) Sustainable Cities Commission, INTERREG Central Baltic Programme and Nordregio.

Brand new app AvaLinn invites people to have their say on designing the public urban space

The urban planners in Tallinn have recently launched the participatory mobile application called AvaLinn for encouraging co-creation and thinking together better solutions for the North Tallinn area and specifically right now for the Skoone Bastion area which is one of our project's Pilot Sites.

Ambitious masterplan in Turku targets growth

In the end of November last year,  Turku Science Park Masterplan 2050 was publicly launched. According to the Master Plan, the Science Park area will be developed as an international concentration of expertise and a showcase of top competence with ambitious objectives.

Norrköping launching their visualization tool on 8.12.2017

New visualization tool called Earth Autopsy that has been under development in Norrköping, will be launched later today. The tool will make it possible to explore the underlying layers of a brownfield site.

Baltic Urban Lab joins Nordregio Forum 2017

On 29 November 2017, we held the 3rd and last Baltic Urban Lab workshop titled "Sustainable brownfield regeneration in Nordic and Baltic cities - Transforming contaminated land into urban districts and living areas" as one of the parallel sessions of the Nordregio Forum 2017. A high demand for redeveloping brownfield areas, such as harbours and industrial sites, to make European cities grow in a more sustainable manner exists.

We are interested to learn about sustainable brownfield regeneration projects and case studies - if Your city has an excellent example of an old industrial building/area turned into lively neighbourhood with great recreational opportunities, we would like to hear from you!  Especially, when in the planning phase, you have utilized citizen participation and more inclusive urban planning processes for regenerating the area!
